 Friends of the Delaware Canal

The Friends of the Delaware Canal is an independent, non-profit organization working to restore, preserve, and improve the Delaware Canal and its surroundings.

Our primary initiatives are to support The Pennsylvania Department of Natural Resources (DCNR) & the Delaware Canal State Park to maintain a fully watered canal and usable towpath trail from Easton to Bristol.

About the Canal

The 58.9-mile-long Delaware Canal, completed in 1832, runs from Bristol to Easton, where it connects with the Lehigh Canal. Its primary purpose was to transport anthracite coal from northeastern Pennsylvania to cities on the eastern seaboard.
